Burkina: SAMAO is an important support tool for the development of the mining sector, President of the NOC

The President of the National Organizing Committee for the West African Mining Week (SAMAO), Jean Baptiste Kaboré, indicated Tuesday in Ouagadougou, that SAMAO, whose 5th edition will be held from September 28 to 30, 2023, is an important support tool for the development of the mining sector.

“SAMAO has positioned itself today as a world reference event due to the enthusiasm it arouses at each edition. It is an important support tool for the development of the mining sector”, indicated the President of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) of the West African Mining Week (SAMAO), Jean Baptiste Kaboré.

Mr. Kaboré was speaking on Tuesday in Ouagadougou, during a press conference, to announce the holding of the 5th edition of the West African Mining Week (SAMAO), scheduled for September 28-30 in Ouagadougou, under the theme "Mining in Africa: what strategy to impact the development of local economies?" ".

He indicated that this international event will bring together in Ouagadougou more than two thousand participants composed of experts, investors, researchers and visitors from various backgrounds.

According to him, SAMAO aims both to reassure “our current partners and to attract other investors in this sector which is one of the most resilient of our economy in the current context”.

Jean Baptiste Kaboré added that the meeting is a springboard for investors who are interested in the mining sector and mainly in Africa and in particular Burkina Faso to have the necessary information so that they can invest in our country.

“As of December 31, 2022, our country had thirteen (13) gold mines and one (01) zinc mine, four of which are shut down for a total production of 57.645 tonnes of gold and 46.789 tonnes of zinc” underlined Mr. Kaboré.

He also specified that direct revenue to the State budget increased from 430.916 billion FCFA in 2021 to 540.984 billion FCFA in 2022, for an increase of 110.068 (25.54%) billion FCFA in recorded absolute value.

"Export earnings related to the mining sector have increased from 2,806.1 billion CFA francs in 2021 to 2,841.9 billion CFA francs in 2022, i.e. 35.8 billion FCFA", added the president of the National Committee of 'organization.

As a reminder, the 4th edition of SAMAO, a space for promoting and celebrating the geological and mining potential of the African continent, was held from September 26 to 28, 2019.

The 5th edition of SAMAO will be held from September 28 to 30, 2023 at the Ouaga 2000 International Conference Center in Ouagadougou, after numerous postponements due to the difficult security environment.
