Ouagadougou: The people of Guibare department launched a community initiative this Saturday in Guibare, aimed at providing their prefecture with modern housing. The official ceremony to lay the foundation stone of the prefect's residence was presided over by the High Commissioner of Bam, Karim Ouedraogo, who launched the work.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the project is led by the prefect and president of the Guibare special delegation (PDS), Kiswindsida Benjamin Ouedraogo. He introduced the idea during a public conference last March as part of the first fortnight of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation, 2025 edition.
The current housing, built with mud brick since 1989, is described as dilapidated and unsuitable. The community was invited to mobilize resources to construct new housing rather than relying entirely on the central government. A committee was formed, and contributions allowed for the commencement of work, with cement received that morning.
The project, estimated to cost 18 million CFA francs, involves the construction of a three-room building with a fence. Initially planned to include two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen, the plan might be modified due to the enthusiasm generated by the initiative.
The High Commissioner of Bam Province, Karim Ouedraogo, expressed support for the initiative and commended the population for their proactive approach to local development. He encouraged other municipalities in the province to emulate this example in alignment with the national vision of participatory and responsible local development.
