Koubri Stakeholders Collaborate on Sustainable Urban Development Strategy for Greater Ouagadougou

Koubri: Local stakeholders define a sustainable vision for their integration into Greater Ouaga On Friday, October 10, 2025, the commune of Koubri hosted a participatory workshop dedicated to the diagnosis and prospecting of the urban development strategy (CDS) and the Climate Air Energy Plan (PCAE) of the Greater Ouagadougou inter-municipality. This meeting, chaired by the first vice-president of the special delegation, Sibiri Compaore, brought together around twenty stakeholders.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the main objective was to identify, in a participatory manner, the strengths, weaknesses, and prospects of the municipality within the framework of the future inter-municipalization of Greater Ouagadougou. The work is part of a study conducted by the G2 Conception firm, represented on the occasion by Alexandre Soubeiga. He praised the mobilization of the participants, inviting them to actively contribute to the development of a shared vision for development.

The discussions highlighted several major challenges. On the environmental front, participants noted deforestation, dam degradation, and the uncontrolled extraction of aggregates. On the social and cultural front, difficulties included land disputes, crime, unemployment, the lack of cultural activities, and problems integrating internally displaced persons.

On the economic and infrastructure front, participants deplored the absence of purchasing counters, the high cost of agricultural inputs, the lack of school and sports infrastructure, as well as the absence of a bus station and a municipal cemetery. Governance issues were also discussed, including the absence of a women's representative on the special delegation and the lack of physical demarcation of municipal boundaries.

Regarding the PCAE, the impacts of climate change-global warming, strong winds, and irregular rainfall-require urgent responses. Proposals range from the creation of a green belt to the promotion of inter-municipal drinking water supply projects and sustainable natural resource management.

By 2050, the participants' vision is to make Koubri an urbanized, prosperous, and resilient municipality, fully integrated into Greater Ouagadougou. This workshop represents an important step toward a united inter-municipality based on consultation, sustainability, and citizen participation.
