Koulpelogo: Full veil banned for three months for security reasons

After broad consultations, the full veil has been banned for a period of three months in the province of Koulpelogo (Center-East), in order to "fight effectively against terrorism", learned the 'AIB.

The High Commissioner of the province of Koulpelogo, Ousmane Ouattara, issued an order on July 31, 2023, prohibiting the wearing of the full veil for a period of three months.

Thus, the decree stipulates that it is strictly prohibited throughout the provincial territory of Koulpelogo, the wearing of the veil which fully covers the face.

The text specifies that the wearing of the veil revealing the face and which makes it possible to clearly identify the person wearing the veil, is authorized.

"This decree, which aims to enable an effective fight against terrorism in the province of Koulpélogo, covers a period of three (03) months at the end of which, it can be renewed or lifted, depending on the evolution of the security situation in the province,” the order reads.

According to our information, the decree was issued after broad consultations, followed by an agreement with the Forces vives of the province of Koulpelogo, including the religious communities.

Recall that on several occasions, armed men posing as women thanks to the full veil, attacked by surprise populations and positions of the VDP and FDS in the province of Koulpelogo.
