Kourittenga Peace Marathon: High Commissioner Urges Provincial Support for Event

Koupela: The organizing committee of the Peace Marathon convened a press conference in Koupela to discuss the upcoming event, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Sports and the Burkinabe Athletics Federation. The High Commissioner of Kourittenga Province, Moctar Ilboudo, emphasized the need for collective effort among stakeholders to ensure the success of the marathon.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Peace Marathon, now in its fourth edition, is scheduled for November 28 and 29, 2025, in Koupela, Kourittenga. The event is themed "Patriotism and national sovereignty: the foundation of inclusive and sustainable development." Athletes, both national and international, are invited to register through the Burkinabe Athletics Federation and the organizing committee, adhering to specified conditions.

Local amateur athletes can register via the provincial sports department, municipal special delegations, and the organizing committee. The event will feature a 42.195 km international professional men's marathon from Tenkodogo to Koupela and a 21 km international professional women's half-marathon within Koupela on November 29, 2025.

Additionally, a 5 km half marathon for people with disabilities will occur on November 28, 2025, and a 10 km half marathon for youths under 18 on November 29, 2025, both within Koupela. The top 20 finishers in the marathon and half-marathon will receive cash and in-kind prizes, with food kits and bonuses awarded to the first 50 women and first 30 men from Kourittenga.

Special prizes will also be available for FDS, VDP, PDI, and partner companies. The committee plans to donate a fully equipped water tower to the women of Kourittenga, space for off-season crops, food for displaced persons, and CNIBs for vulnerable individuals. Arrangements are underway for athlete transportation, security, accommodation, and delegation health.

In support of the Kourittenga 'Faso Mebo' initiative, the committee has donated five tons of cement. Jacques Balma, overseeing the marathon on behalf of organizing committee president Ousmane Sandwidi, urged Press support to elevate the event to a regional sporting benchmark. High Commissioner Moctar Ilboudo reiterated the importance of mobilizing the province's vital forces to overcome challenges.
