Mouhoun: More than 130 tons of rice are expected in the Sao lowland, in the commune of Tcheriba, for the 2025-2026 season. This performance was praised by the Governor of Bankui, Babo Pierre Bassinga, during a supervision visit to the RESICOM project on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the governor of the Bankui region, Babo Pierre Bassinga, while carrying out the field visit to the commune of Tcheriba, went successively to the rice-growing lowland of Sao and to the vaccination park of Sirakele. This mission is part of the project to Strengthen the Community Resilience of Agro-sylvo-pastoral Households (RESICOM), implemented by a consortium composed of Solidar Suisse, SOS Sahel International Burkina, in partnership with OCADES Caritas/Dedougou, FEPAB-Yatenga and the Wendkouni Association of Boulsa (AWK).
The initiative aims to increase the resilience and autonomy of agro-sylvo-pastoral households, including internally displaced persons, severely affected by the security crisis and climate change, through concrete actions to revive agricultural and pastoral production and promote sustainable development in rural areas. In the Sao rice-growing lowland, the mission, conducted with the support of regional and provincial technical services for agriculture as well as animal and fishery resources, noted a significant improvement in results.
Developed over 20 hectares in 2022-2023, the site has been extended to 30 hectares thanks to the renewed confidence of the landowners. This extension has allowed production to increase from 84 tonnes of rice during the previous campaign to a forecast of more than 130 tonnes for the 2025-2026 campaign. The delegation then went to Sirakele, where it visited the cattle vaccination park built as part of the RESICOM project.
Before its implementation, breeders had to travel several kilometers to have their animals vaccinated in Tcheriba. Thanks to this infrastructure, operational since last year, more than 800 heads of cattle were able to be treated on site, to the great relief of breeders. The beneficiaries did, however, express certain grievances, notably the creation of boreholes in the Sao lowlands to promote market gardening during the dry season, as well as the construction of a second vaccination park for small ruminants in Sirakele.
The governor praised the commitment and determination of the producers, which he considered to be in perfect harmony with the vision of the country's highest authorities, resolutely committed to the quest for national food self-sufficiency. He stressed that these achievements constitute more than satisfactory results which reflect the relevance of the project and call for sustained support for the well-being of rural populations.
Speaking about the producers' grievances, the governor reassured them that he had taken good note of their concerns and promised to initiate consultations with technical and financial partners as well as with the competent decentralized services, with a view to seeking appropriate solutions. The regional authority also congratulated all stakeholders involved in the implementation of the RESICOM project for the results already achieved, while urging them to continue their efforts to consolidate the achievements.
Babo Pierre Bassinga reaffirmed the commitment of regional authorities to support all initiatives contributing to food self-sufficiency, community resilience, and the harmonious development of the rural world in the Boucle du Mouhoun.
