Order and Discipline Recommended on the Roads During JEPPC Event

Noumbiel: As part of the 2nd phase of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation (JEPPC), a public conference on the theme 'Road Safety and Collective Responsibility' was organized by the provincial authorities this Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the Gourcy town hall.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the National Police provided statistics indicating that more than 21,113 traffic accidents occur each year, resulting in approximately 13,078 injuries and 883 deaths. These accidents predominantly involve young people and two-wheeled vehicles.

In response to these statistics, the provincial authorities of Zondoma initiated a road safety awareness day, which saw high attendance from students in the commune of Gourcy. This activity, as part of the JEPPC's second phase, was led by the High Commissioner of Zondoma, Aboubacar Sidiki Nabe. The High Commissioner emphasized the importance of student involvement in road safety discussions.

The Gourcy Central Police Commissioner, Aristide Ignace Sorgho, delivered a presentation on road safety, stressing the need for individuals to recognize their roles and commit to long-term safety practices. He urged road users to maintain "order and discipline," advocating for strict adherence to the highway code to reduce accidents. Mamadou Marcel Sawadogo, a mission officer at the Presidency of Faso, followed with a presentation on presidential initiatives related to community development, education, agriculture, Faso M¨bo, and APEC.

The conference will be succeeded by a sanitation day at the urban health center (CSPS) of Gourcy, scheduled for October 15, 2025.
