The number of tourists visiting the governorate of Sousse in the first half of 2023 was up 34.7% compared to the previous year, with 414,194 tourists compared to 307,468 tourists during the same period in 2022. Likewise, the number of overnight stays in the region rose by 77.5% to 1,546,301, compared with 871,379 overnights in 2022, Sousse regional tourism delegate Taoufik Belgaied told TAP. Domestic tourism had topped the rankings in terms of the number of visitors, with 175,026 tourists, even though it had recorded a drop of 1.8% compared with the same period in 2022, he specified. Algerian tourists had come second with 4,787, up 982% compared to the previous year. French tourists ranked third, with an increase of more than 36%, followed by the British up by 31%, he explained.
