Sub-Saharan migrants stranded at border buffer zone relocated to Tataouine

President of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights Mustapha AbdelKebir said on Monday that 130 Sub-Saharan migrants out of approximately 450 migrants stranded at the Tunisian-Libyan border in the buffer zone have been relocated to the governorate of Tataouine, pending the transfer of the remaining group to several governorates across the country. According to AbdelKebir, this constitutes a «significant humanitarian measure,» given that the presence of migrants in a closed military security zone «poses a danger within an area where foreigners are not allowed access, not to mention the lack of basic living facilities and extremely harsh weather conditions.» The Observatory's President reiterated the call to «address the issue of migrants and refugees in accordance with national law and international agreements ratified by Tunisia, and to find solutions within the framework of the law." Teams of Tunisian Red Crescent volunteers had carried out a rescue operation on Sunday, to help a number of migrants trapped in the border zone in Ben Guerdane. Food distribution and medical care were provided in accordance with the President's orders.
