Mouhoun: The President of the special delegation (PDS) of Safane, Ali Traore, launched the harvests on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Sirakorosso, on the rice-growing area exploited by the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), in the presence of several administrative, customary, and security authorities. This initiative is part of the national drive for food self-sufficiency advocated by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traore.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the VDPs have cultivated 11 hectares of rice on a total area of 42 hectares, with support from the departmental agriculture service. This support included the provision of 250 kilograms of TS2 seeds, 4.2 tonnes of fertilizer, and subsidization of the plowing of 5 hectares. Ali Traore praised the patriotic commitment of the VDP, emphasizing that defending the homeland involves achieving food autonomy. He also acknowledged the traditional leaders for their support and reaffirmed the special delegation's commitment to support local production initiatives.
The municipal head of the VDP expressed gratitude to local authorities and the provincial coordination of the VDP for their support. He noted that in 2024, the cultivation of 6 hectares resulted in a harvest of 125 bags of rice and expressed confidence in a successful 2025 campaign due to better organization and enhanced technical support. The head of the ZAT, Kedoua Bako, highlighted the comprehensive support provided to the VDPs by her department, including agricultural inputs and ploughing management, aligning with the guidelines of the highest authorities.
Dr. Sina Sere, the head of the Safane canton, encouraged the VDPs to continue their production work while preserving social cohesion, which he described as fundamental for living together. He viewed the field as a place of collective struggle for dignity and national sovereignty. Several observers believe this activity illustrates the local realization of the national food sovereignty policy, showcasing the dynamism of the VDPs in both production and security efforts.
