Ouahigouya: The Regional Council of the Order of Physicians held its Ordinary General Assembly at the end of last week in Ouahigouya, devoted to reviewing its activities, examining the challenges facing the medical profession and developing courses of action to improve the practice of medicine in a context of security and humanitarian crisis.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the assembly gathered participants from the ordinal region which covers Koulse, Liptako, and Yaadga. The theme of the assembly was "Medicine in times of crisis: ethical and deontological issues," highlighting the complex environment in which these medical professionals operate.
At the opening of the ceremony, Thomas Yampa, governor of the Yaadga region, acknowledged the resilience of medical personnel amid numerous challenges. He noted that doctors in the region face insecurity, resource scarcity, and insufficient staffing, yet they continue to serve the population diligently. "The doctor remains the point of contact when people are in need," Yampa remarked.
Dr. Fagnima Traore, president of the Regional Council of the Order of Physicians of Ouahigouya, emphasized the importance of the AGM as a platform for consultation and capacity building. He encouraged doctors to discuss solutions to the challenges faced by the medical profession and urged those in high-security areas to "remain strong and resilient."
The general meeting featured two key communications focusing on "Medicine in times of crisis: ethical and professional issues" and "Doctors and common travel funds." These discussions aimed to deepen participants' understanding of professional values and enhance their ability to manage complex situations. The assembly also welcomed new physicians, honored the profession's elders, and presented certificates of recognition to several physicians and partners.
Under the patronage of Dr. Zala Lassara, Director of the Persis Pediatric Medical and Surgical Center in Ouahigouya, the assembly was attended by the Governor of Liptako and the representative of the Koulse. The event was characterized by solidarity and professionalism, reaffirming the doctors' commitment to serving the population despite challenging conditions.
