17th Training Session Enhances Security Skills for Humanitarian Workers

Ouagadougou: A comprehensive training session aimed at enhancing the security and safety management skills of humanitarian workers and project coordinators has been announced. The 17th Training Session focuses on providing strategic and practical tools for managing security in humanitarian projects, ensuring access in hostile regions, and effectively preventing incidents.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the training covers a variety of critical topics including the principles and rules of International Humanitarian Law, fundamentals of security management, and humanitarian access in hostile zones. Participants will also learn about context and risk analysis, the security triangle of a humanitarian mission, and the security and safety management cycle. Additional components include the implementation of security plans and contingency/emergency planning, as well as security briefings and incident/crisis management.

This training is designed for project coordinators, managers, and assistants looking to develop their security knowledge, as well as humanitarian workers, members of the FDS, and security managers in various sectors. It also targets political or security analysts and young professionals seeking to build their capacities. Career paths for participants may include roles such as Humanitarian or Mining Security Manager, Humanitarian Access Officer, Security Analyst or Risk Manager, and Crisis Management Officer, among others.

The growing demand for qualified security professionals in the humanitarian sector underscores the importance of this training. As highlighted by the agency, there are currently more than 100 job openings in the humanitarian security field on platforms like Indeed, with positions regularly offered by international organizations.
