Detention warrant issued against former governor of Gabes in corruption case

The investigating judge at the Gabes court of first instance issued a detention warrant for the former governor of Gabes in a case related to the fraudulent allocation of fodder sale permits.

First deputy public prosecutor to the Gabes court of first instance Mounir Arroum told TAP that the ex-governor has been charged with using his position to procure for himself or a third party an unjustified advantage, and causing damage to the administration.

The ex-governor was sentenced on April 13, 2023, to three months in prison for having continued to exercise his functions after an official decision to dismiss him.

WTA Italian Open: Ons Jabeur knocked out of second round

Tunisia's tennis player Ons Jabeur (world No. 7), on Friday, was knocked out of the second round of the WTA Italian Open by Spanish Paula Badosa (world No. 35) 1-6, 4-6.

Jabeur, who was exempt from the first round, had reached the final of the previous edition, before losing to world No. 1 Iga Swiatek (2-6, 2-6).

Basketball – Pro A championship ES Radès beat Etoile du Sahel 94-91 in placement game

ES Radès defeated Etoile du Sahel (94-91) at a placement game for the third place of Tunisia's Basketball Pro A championship, played Friday in Rades.

The second game will be played on May 17 in Rades, while the third and fourth games will be played on May 23 and 26 in Sousse.

If they tie, the two teams will play a decisive fifth game on May 26 in Rades.

Mediterranean Karate championship scheduled in Tunis to see 440 competitors

The Tunisian Karate Federation (FTK) announced on Friday that 447 karatekas from 19 countries will take part in the 29th Mediterranean championship of the discipline, scheduled from May 19 to 21 in Rades.

This championship will see the participation of several world and Olympic champions, said President of the FTK Hassan Korbi at a press conference on Friday.

The competition will involve Tunisia, as well as Albania, Algeria, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Kosovo, Libya, Montenegro, Morocco, Northern Macedonia, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Syria and Turkey.

Tunisia will be represented by 142 karatekas in the different categories. They are Thameur Slimani, Ramez Bouallègue, Chahine Zarati and Islem Ben Hassan in the senior category, Mariem Ben Taleb, Ranim Ben Hassan and Iheb Ferchichi in the junior category, and Mayssa Ksontini, Yasmine Balaazi and Rayane Ghazouani in the cadet category.
