Tunisian airports see 11.7% increase in air passenger traffic by end of Feb.2024 (OACA)

Air passenger traffic via Tunisian airports was up by 11.7% during the first 2 months of 2024, to 1,196,444 passengers, compared with the same period in 2023, data published on Tuesday by the Office of Civil Aviation and Airports (French: OACA) show. This upward trend characterised most of the Tunisian airports, notably Tunis-Carthage Airport (+11% to 1,008,386 passengers), Djerba-Zarzis Airport (+10.5% to 152,778), Sfax-Thyna Airport (+29.6% to 27,592), Tozeur-Nefta Airport (+218,1% to 7,145 ) and Tabarka- Ain Drahem Airport (+18% to 543). OACA statistics also point to a 9% increase in commercial traffic "aircraft movements" during the first two months of 2024, compared with the same period in 2023, with 10,440 aircraft movements recorded. Aircraft movements were up by 8.5% at Tunis Carthage International Airport (8,450 movements), 10.3% at Djerba-Zarzis International Airport (1,275 movements) and 14.9% at Sfax-Thyna International Airport (587 movements). Aircraft movements also increased by 100% at Toze ur Nefta international airport (100 movements). However, it fell by 33.3% at Tabarka-Ain Draham international airport (28 movements). Tunindex closes Tuesday’s session down 0.5%

The Tunindex closed Tuesday's session down 0.5% at 8,662 points on a modest volume of TND 2 million, according to broker Tunisie Valeurs. CELLCOM shares were the best performers. The stock rose 3.8% to TND 1.370 in off-exchange trading. BH shares were also among the best performers, rising 2.3% to TND 11.5. The stock failed to attract any flows. ICF shares were the worst performer, falling 6% to TND 64.290, with a low volume of TND 19,000. Euro-Cycles also fell by 4.8% to TND 11.800 with a trading volume of only TND 61,000. CBF, ANME sign agreement to increase financing of green energy projects

The National Agency for Energy Management (French: ANME) and the Tunisian Banking and Finance Council (CBF) Tuesday signed an agreement designed to boost the role of the banking and financial sector in supporting the implementation of the national strategy of energy transition. The agreement was inked by ANME Director General Fethi Hanchi and CBF President Néji Ghandri. It provides for developing funding mechanisms of projects in renewables and energy efficiency so as to help cut greenhouse gas emissions, ANME said in a press release. Under the agrement, a programme dubbed Green banking initiative will be set in motion to urge banks and financial institutions to reduce their carbon footprint by opting for renewable energies and adopting measures which secure energy efficiency. A guide for the implementation of mechanisms of financing proposed by the Energy Transition Fund, banks and financial insrtitutions as part of energy transition support will also be developed. The agreement provides for the speeded- up funding of green projects and the creation of a platform to calculate the carbon footprint of the banking and financial sector. Training sessions for ANME and CBF executives are on the agenda, in addition to joint awareness-raising campaigns. Fethi Hanchi said at the signing ceremony the agreement will support efforts to expedite energy transition in Tunisia and improve access to sustainable energy. These goals require huge investments that can be made available under this agreement. CBF's Néji Ghandri said the agreement ushers in a new stage of partnership with the ANME. The banking and financial sector is committed to backing green energy initiatives. Head of State visits train and metro depots of Jebel Jeloud and Tunis Marine

Women from villages impacted by the Sanbrado Mines Corporation (SOMISA) gold project recently celebrated International Women's Day with a series of community events and discussions focused on crucial themes for their development. This celebration, which took place on March 9 and 10, 2024, was made possible thanks to the financial support of SOMISA, and saw the participation of women from different villages facing the challenges of the mining project. Faced with the precarious security context, SOMISA opted for a decentralized approach this year, allowing women from each village to organize around a community meal and debate the topics of their choice. Namentenga: The support and professional reintegration project for women and young people in Dargo launched

The representative of the high commissioner of the province of Namentenga, the Secretary General of the province (SG), Bassouleymane Ouattara launched on Monday March 11, 2024, the Project to support the professional reintegration of women and youth (PARPFJ) of the municipality of Dargo, in the presence of the municipal bodies.
