77-Year-Old Man Sentenced for Aggravated Rape of a Minor

Kourittenga: A 77-year-old man has been sentenced by the Fada Court of Appeal in its criminal division for the aggravated rape of a 14-year-old minor. SB, the accused, faced a five-year prison sentence and a fine of 1 million CFA francs, both of which were suspended.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the charges stemmed from an incident where SB engaged in non-consensual sexual relations with the minor while she was tending to herds in the bush. In court, the accused admitted to having sexual relations with the girl but claimed that the acts were consensual and took place in her home.

The victim's testimony contradicted SB's claims, as she stated that he threatened her with a machete and raped her while she was guarding herds in a pasture. After hearing the arguments, the court found SB guilty of the charges.

The court's decision included a suspended five-year prison sentence and a fine of 1 million CFA francs against SB. Additionally, the civil party's lawyer requested compensation for the victim and her infant until the age of 7, amounting to 5 million CFA francs, and reimbursement for the victim's parents for medical examinations and other related expenses.
