Ouagadougou: The Niger Mena team won the African wrestling and archery competition at the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) Games on Thursday, the Malian Press Agency reported. Athletes from the three AES countries hosted Thursday's event, which featured three competitions: arm wrestling, African wrestling, and archery.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the arm wrestling competition took place at the Salamatou Maga Sports Palace. Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger each entered five athletes, who competed in six weight categories: -60kg, -72kg, and +72kg (left and right arms) for men, and -58kg, -65kg, and +75kg (left and right arms) for women.
In the overall ranking, Mali rose to first place with 8 gold medals and 2 silver medals, ahead of Burkina Faso, which won 2 gold medals and 8 silver medals, and Niger (2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals).
