Bamako: At the end of the second day of the 1st Games of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), Mali won 4 gold medals and 2 silver medals in Kung fu wushu on Sunday in Bamako, and Burkina Faso won the gold medal in "taolu", we learned from the Malian Press Agency, AMAP.
According to Burkina Information Agency, athlete Oumou Bouar© distinguished herself by winning two gold medals and one silver medal in the taolu events (a Chinese term for routines or forms, which are codified sequences of attack and defense movements). She won the gold medals in taolu "bare hand changquan" ahead of Rim Vanessa Simpor© of Burkina Faso and in taolu "with gunshu stick" ahead of the same opponent, Rim Vanessa Simpor©, who redeemed herself by winning the gold medal in taolu "with daoshu sabre" ahead of Oumou Bouar©.
In the women's sanda competition, Adam Djekpil© won the gold medal ahead of Latifata Sana in the -65kg category, while in the men's category, Abdoulaye Diassana of Mali defeated Iboudo Nianis of Burkina Faso. The -80kg category saw Boubacar Ibrahim of Niger win the gold medal ahead of Seydou Diarra.
The competition will continue today with the final finals and the medal ceremony. The event began on Saturday with a football match between Mali and Niger (a 3-0 victory for the Aiglonnets) and the opening ceremony at the Salamatou Maga Sports Palace.
