Kinshasa: An African Union helicopter operated by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) contingent crash-landed on Wednesday at around 7:30 a.m. The incident occurred just before the helicopter was set to land at the Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu, after departing from the Baledogle military airbase.
According to African Press Organization, three out of the eight passengers on board were immediately rescued and rushed to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) Level II hospital in Mogadishu. These individuals are currently receiving medical attention.
Efforts are ongoing with search and rescue operations to locate and retrieve the remaining crew and passengers involved in the crash. The mission underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the African Union in its operations within Somalia.
