ARP: MPs hold working session with delegation from German Bundestag on irregular migration

The issue of irregular migration was the focus of a meeting held, on Friday, at the Tunisian Parliament between MPs and a delegation from the Committee on Digital Affairs in the German Bundestag led by Tobias Bacherle.

MPs spoke of the rise of the phenomenon of irregular migration which has become a major concern for many countries, including Tunisia, reads a statement of the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP)

They stressed the need to combine efforts in order to find effective solutions to irregular migration as part of a global approach «far from just security dimensions.»

They called for identifying the “deep” and “historical” causes of irregular migration and human trafficking, reiterating the need to dismantle the various networks that finance them.

The growing gap between the countries of the South and the North as well as the striking poverty rates and the stagnation of the global economy are all factors which have encouraged the spread of irregular migration.

eration between Tunisia and Germany, particularly in the areas of professional training, higher education as well as investments in the pharmaceutical field and in green economy.

Tobias Bacherle expressed Germany’s readiness to consolidate partnership with Tunisia and curb the phenomenon of irregular migration. He laid emphasis on promoting cooperation as part of agreements to be signed between Tunisia and the EU, support Tunisia’s developments efforts as well as reduce brain drain, which has increased over the past few years.
