Atypical Nights of Koudougou Launches 29th Edition Highlighting Rural Land Preservation.
Koudougou: The 29th edition of the Atypical Nights of Koudougou (NAK) has officially commenced, bringing a vibrant array of activities to the city from November 27 to December 1, 2024. This year's festival theme, "Culture and Preservation of Rural Land," emphasizes the importance of cultural practices in safeguarding and managing land resources effectively. According to Burkina Information Agency, the director of NAK, Koudbi Koala, expressed concerns about the decline in cultural practices, attributing it to the suboptimal management of land. He highlighted the shift from local traditions to imported lifestyles, which has disrupted the natural balance between culture and land in Burkina Faso. Koala identified this issue as a socio-cultural problem impacting everyone, as it undermines environmental respect and community values. As evidence, Koala cited numerous conflicts arising from misunderstandings related to plot management and allocation. To address these challenges, a conference featuring distinguished personalities and professor-researchers will be held at Norbert Zongo University. The conference, themed "Protection of African Cultural Heritage in the Face of Major Land Development and Mining Projects," aims to foster discussions on this pressing issue. The festival's program remains unchanged, featuring live performances over four nights with artists from Burkina Faso, Algeria, Mali, Niger, Ivory Coast, and Pakistan. Additionally, a shopping street with nearly two hundred exhibitors, a gastronomic area, and the Kombi Zaka area will offer workshops to educate around a hundred children on local traditions and values. Despite the festival's success, the construction of infrastructure for the NAK headquarters is delayed due to funding challenges. Koudbi Koala has appealed for support to realize this project. The Minister of Urban Planning and Housing's representative, Borgia Somda, commended the festival's theme and expressed hope that the conference's conclusions would aid the ministry in addressing land-r elated difficulties in Burkina Faso. Somda emphasized the need to engage various sectors to attract investment partners for the infrastructure project. He called for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to secure the necessary funding for the festival's development. Boukary Nikiema, representing the Minister in charge of Culture, praised the resilience and dedication of the NAK organizers while officially opening the 29th edition.
