The union of women of the Mana mine organized, as part of the 'Pink October month', dedicated to the fight against breast cancer, awareness-raising and screening activities for breast and cervical cancer. The activities were launched on Thursday, October 24, 2024 in Wona with a 'pink march' that brought together local populations and mine workers.The union of women of the mine of mana is committed against gynecological cancer in the impact zone of the activities of the mine. To this end, it confirmed for the third consecutive year its commitment to the maternal health of its sisters through various activities within the framework of its annual program of the month of October dedicated to the fight against breast cancer called pink October.The awareness-raising activities began in the morningThursday's event began with a "pink march". Men from the mine and surrounding villages showed their solidarity with the women by their presence. The marchers left from the entrance gatehouse and then walked along th e main streets of the village of Wona before reaching the market area. Throughout the route, they conveyed messages in favor of screening for and eliminating breast cancer in the local community.On the market square, the public watched a forum theater hosted by the Farafina Yelé troupe. The role play allowed the actors and the public to highlight good practices for an efficient fight against breast and cervical cancer, which claim victims. The troupe's message won over the spectators, who reacted positively to the commitment of the organizers of the campaign against women's cancer.According to the president of the union, Zara Ouédraogo, "Pink October" is an opportunity for their association to engage in the fight against women's cancer and the mobilization of the population is a reason for satisfaction. In this sense, the president invited women and girls to do their screening for free in the health centers indicated for the occasion and at the site clinic for their well-being. Also, she requestedthe su pport of men and community leaders in order to break the taboo around screening sessions. Mrs. Ouédraogo took advantage of this platform to express the recognition of their association to local administrative authorities, community leaders, EDV mine managers and subcontracting companies for their commitment and support in organizing activities. For a success, screening kits were given to the selected health centers.According to the representative of the general manager Abdoul Karim, it is their responsibility to support such an initiative which contributes to the well-being of the community and the first leaders could not help but support the women in their noble fight against cancer.The vice-president of the special delegation of Bana, also coordinator of women's associations, Nafissatou Diallo, also congratulated the initiative of the women of Mana. Mrs. Diallo also invited her sisters to participate massively in screening to ensure their health. In her opinion, cervical and cervical cancer is a reality and very often it is the negligence and ignorance of women that lead to deplorable situations.This awareness and screening campaign was an opportunity for the organizers and the various participants in the activities to recognize that victory against cancer is possible through a synergy of participatory action, hence their slogan "together it is possible" repeated several times in unison.The activities of the Mana Mine Women's Union extend over three days with a public conference on gynecological cancers, an aerobics session, and an evening of celebration.Source: Burkina Information Agency
