The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, declared that he had taken note of the rejection by the National Assembly of the project to dissolve the High Council of Local Authorities (HCCT) and the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), the presidency indicated on Wednesday."The President of the Republic takes note of the decision of the majority deputies and reaffirms his commitment to working for the expression of plural political positions, essential to the democratic game and the balance of powers," the Palace of the Republic underlines in a press release. The document reports in particular on the reaction of the Head of State following the rejection by the National Assembly of a draft amendment to the constitution aimed at dissolving the HCCT and the CESE.A total of 83 MPs voted against the constitutional amendment sought by the government. 80 approved it at the end of a plenary session that lasted until late on Monday evening. For the Senegalese presidency, "the rejection of this bill provides information on the deep rupture between the majority deputies and the popular aspirations which were massively expressed during the presidential election of March 24th."She insists on the fact that the already agreed abolition of the National Commission for Territorial Dialogue and the proposed dissolution of the HCCT and the CESE are in addition to the various presidential directives on the rationalisation of public spending that the government intends to implement.Source: Burkina Information Agency
