Baz¨ga Reforestation Effort Sees 230 Seedlings Planted Along Key Road

Baz¨ga: Administrative authorities and residents of Kombissiri, under the initiative of ASTFB, planted 230 seedlings on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, along the 2km stretch between Kombissiri and Gaongo. The aim is to help restore the vegetation cover.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the month of June 2025 is marked by the celebration of the seventh edition of the National Tree Day in Burkina Faso under the theme: 'Medicinal plants: sources of health and climate resilience of communities'. To support this day, the Song-Taaba Association of Women of Burkina Faso (ASTFB), in partnership with Plan International/Burkina, carried out a reforestation project to combat desertification.

With the mobilization of the population and administrative authorities, 230 Cailcedrats and N©r© plants were planted on both sides of the departmental road linking the communes of Kombissiri and Gaongo over a distance of 2 kilometers. Each planted species is protected by a fence, ensuring its growth and contribution to restoring the vegetation cover.

This reforestation initiative organized by ASTFB is part of the implementation of the YEWA (Youth Empowerment in West Africa) program of the NGO Plan International/Burkina. Basile Florent Sedego, the YEWA/ASTFB Segnam coordinator, stated that the goal is to restore vegetation cover, improve soil fertility, and combat air pollution.

The High Commissioner of Baz¨ga T©n© Province, Justine Kient©ga/Ilboudo, who presided over the ceremony, emphasized the importance of reforestation efforts. She noted that reforestation holds ecological, social, and economic significance due to its numerous benefits. Mrs. Kient©ga also encouraged the population of Kombissiri to integrate reforestation into their daily lives and adopt responsible behaviors to preserve natural resources.
