Baz¨ga: Administrative authorities and residents of Kombissiri, under the initiative of the Song-Taaba Association of Women of Burkina Faso (ASTFB), planted 230 seedlings on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, along the 2km stretch between Kombissiri and Gaongo. The aim is to help restore vegetation cover.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the month of June 2025 marks the celebration of the seventh edition of the National Tree Day in Burkina Faso, which was themed "Medicinal plants: sources of health and climate resilience of communities". To support this initiative, the ASTFB, in collaboration with Plan International/Burkina, spearheaded the reforestation effort to restore vegetation cover and combat desertification.
The project saw the active participation of the local population and administrative authorities, who planted 230 Cailc©drats and N©r© plants along the departmental road linking the communes of Kombissiri and Gaongo over a distance of 2 kilometers. These newly planted species are safeguarded by protective fencing.
This reforestation initiative, organized by ASTFB, is part of the implementation of the YEWA (Youth Empowerment in West Africa) program of the NGO Plan International/Burkina. According to YEWA/ASTFB Segnam coordinator Basile Florent Sedego, the primary objectives are to restore vegetation cover, improve soil fertility, and mitigate air pollution.
The ceremony was presided over by the High Commissioner of the province of Baz¨ga, T©n© Justine Kient©ga/Ilboudo, who emphasized the importance of encouraging reforestation efforts. She highlighted that reforestation holds significant ecological, social, and economic benefits.
Mrs. Kient©ga lauded the efforts of the ASTFB and urged the residents of Kombissiri to make reforestation a regular practice and to adopt sustainable behaviors to preserve natural resources.
