Biometric passport and customary chieftaincy dominate the front pages of Burkinabe newspapers

The Burkinabe press this Wednesday reported on a government statement putting an end to the two-headed system at the head of the kingdom of Gulmu, in the Eastern region, and the official launch of the new biometric passport."Civil status: Burkina Faso acquires a new, latest-generation passport," boasts the front page of the oldest private Burkinabe dailies, L'Observateur Paalga.The private newspaper reports that the new biometric jewel has several particularities compared to the old document.The colleague specifies that according to the Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, the mention ECOWAS and the ECOWAS logo will disappear from the new Burkinabe passport.The state daily Sidwaya claims that Minister Sana officially launched yesterday Tuesday in Ouagadougou, the new document called "epassport".The private newspaper Le Pays, for its part, explains that the new biometric passport described as "latest generation", in the opinion of the director general of the National Identification Office (ONI) is the culmination of a process launched in 2022.On another chapter, the same newspaper informs that a press release from the ministry in charge of territorial administration informs that his Majesty Untaanba is recognized as the only king of the kingdom of Gulmu.The private daily notes that the said communiqué puts an end to a two-headed system at the head of the Gulmu kingdom, in the Eastern region.The public newspaper Sidwaya adds that according to the head of the Department of Territorial Administration and Mobility, the crisis born of the two-headed government at the head of the Gulmu kingdom since May 2020 has now been resolved.He continues that His Majesty Untaanba is recognized as the one and only king of Gulmu with all the prerogatives attached to it.Source: Burkina Information Agency
