Boulgou Malaria Prevention Campaign Benefits Over 32,000 Children

Boulgou: The Seasonal Chemoprevention (SPC) campaign aimed at combating malaria, alongside efforts to tackle acute malnutrition, has successfully provided preventive treatment to 32,672 children in the Bittou health district, revealed Dr. Bourama Ouattara, the chief medical officer of the Bittou health district.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Bourama Ouattara emphasized that this initiative is part of the national strategy to combat malaria, which remains the leading cause of death among children under five in Burkina Faso. The preventive chemotherapy (CPS) campaign specifically targeted children aged 3 to 59 months, who are especially vulnerable during the rainy season, a period known for high malaria transmission.

Dr. Ouattara further explained that the campaign was also aimed at screening and treating acute malnutrition, affecting children aged 6 to 59 months. The success of the preventive chemotherapy campaign, alongside efforts to address acute malnutrition, was achieved through the mobilization of community workers and the involvement of parents and local leaders.

He expressed appreciation for the commitment of all stakeholders and urged parents to persist in prevention efforts. This includes adhering to additional measures such as the regular use of impregnated mosquito nets and maintaining a healthy living environment.

The Bittou health district effectively mobilized 356 distributors to ensure the campaign's reach. Furthermore, children who were not up to date with their vaccination schedule received the necessary vaccinations during this initial visit.
