Bobo-Dioulasso: The Minister of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training, Dr. Boubakar Savadogo, engaged with final-year high school students in Bobo-Dioulasso to elucidate the compulsory patriotic immersion program, recently sanctioned by the Council of Ministers on May 2.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative is designed to instill citizenship values through a month-long program incorporating physical activities and the instruction of six modules. These cover the history of Burkina Faso, national construction, geopolitics, employability, contemporary challenges, and youth commitment to national development.
Minister Savadogo emphasized that the pilot phase targets students who have achieved the 2025 baccalaureate, citing scheduling constraints at the academic year's end. He expressed plans to eventually extend the program to holders of various certificates, including the First Cycle Studies Certificate (BEPC), the Professional Aptitude Certificate (CAP), and the Professional Studies Certificate (BEP).
The minister articulated that this initiative is intended to cultivate a strong sense of national identity among young people, enhance their civic consciousness, and prepare them for future responsibilities. He noted that the program aims to shift the mindset of youths who often focus on the present without a clear future vision.
Students responded positively, with many expressing curiosity and interest in the program. Gladys Sawadogo, a final-year student at Sainte-Marie College in Tounouma, supported the initiative, clarifying that it is designed to build responsible citizens aware of national challenges, rather than preparing individuals for military frontlines.
Post-discussion, Minister Savadogo voiced his satisfaction with the engagement, noting that many students left feeling informed and motivated. He assured parents that the training is beneficial, enhancing young people's discipline, civic-mindedness, and future vision for themselves and the nation.
