Burkina Faso: Ministry of Security Strengthens Its Agents’ Cybercrime Capabilities

Burkina faso: The Ministry of Security initiated a training session on cybercrime for its staff, aiming to equip agents to face this evolving phenomenon and strengthen their prevention and protection capacities. The session commenced on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Divisional Commissioner, ‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬¦¡¬¦¡¬°mile Kadiogo, representing the Minister of Security at the session's opening, expressed that the initiative will enable participants to update their knowledge and protect against digital threats. Kadiogo emphasized the importance of sharing the newly acquired knowledge with colleagues, loved ones, and communities.

The commander of the Central Cybercrime Brigade (BCLCC), Bantida Samir© Yoni, highlighted the reality of cybercrime, which involves several offenses that require understanding. He noted the necessity of understanding threats to prepare for them, presenting the typology of existing threats in Africa and Burkina Faso.

Yoni pointed out that nearly 60% of cybercrime victims in the country suffer due to ignorance. The goal is to raise awareness and provide tools to reduce risks and avoid harm. He stressed the importance of sharing good cybersecurity practices in various settings.

The BCLCC reports that cybercrime, termed as the "silent enemy," is the leading global threat, surpassing terrorism. In Burkina Faso, financial losses from cybercrime are estimated at over two billion CFA francs.

The two-day training is expected to enable participants to become advocates for awareness and prevention within their structures and communities.
