Burkina Faso Reforestation Effort Sees 600 Seedlings Planted at Defense Ministry

Ouagadougou: At least 600 seedlings were planted in the Ministry of Defense grove as part of a reforestation initiative presided over by Colonel-Major Salif Tingueri, who represented the Minister of State, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, General C©lestin Simpor©. The event saw the participation of both civilian and military personnel, who planted fruit and medicinal trees to contribute to the nation's greening efforts and combat global warming.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this reforestation ceremony aligns with the government's initiative titled "The Patriotic Hour to Green Faso." Colonel-Major Salif Tingueri, Director General of Infrastructure, Equipment and Defense Industry (DGIEID), emphasized the dual role of the military in fighting insecurity and participating in environmental conservation. He assured that the newly planted trees would be well-maintained, highlighting that the ministry has an effective monitoring system in place.

Naba Congo, the traditional chief of the Nagrin district, expressed support for the initiative, stating, "the tree is life," and praised the Ministry of Defense for their ecological contribution. The reforestation effort is part of Burkina Faso's annual celebration of National Tree Day, marking the launch of the national reforestation campaign. This year's theme is "Medicinal Plants, Sources of Health and Climate Resilience for Communities."

The government also initiated "Patriotic Hour to Green Faso," aiming to plant 5 million trees in just one hour, between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
