Burkina Faso Security Forces Criticized for Abusive Behavior During Vehicle Checks

Ouagadougou: The Minister of Security of Burkina Faso has condemned the counterproductive and harmful conduct exhibited by some security personnel during vehicle checks on major roads. He emphasized that all checks, whether documentary or security-related, should be conducted "at the foot of the vehicles."

According to Burkina Information Agency, the minister highlighted that some security agents have been overstepping their boundaries and misusing their authority. This widespread misconduct not only harms the populace but also negatively impacts the relationship between security forces and citizens. The press release underscores the need for corrective measures to improve trust and efficiency.

The minister described these behaviors as breeding grounds for corruption and other related practices, which are punishable under the Penal Code. He urged individuals who experience or witness such actions to report them accurately to the appropriate authorities, specifically the National Coordination for Police Force Control (CONACFP), using the toll-free number: 1020.

Mahamadou Sana, the Minister of Security, reiterated that all checks must be conducted at the vehicle's location. Despite the issues, he acknowledged the dedication and resolve of the security forces in their duty to protect the public and their properties.
