Ouagadougou: The date of April 30, 2025, has been chosen by many citizens around the world to demonstrate their support for the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, in his relentless fight against all forms of alienation of his country and Africa in general. The AIB looks back at the key actions taken by the Burkinabe head of state since coming to power.
According to Burkina Information Agency, barely five months after coming to power, on February 28, 2023, the President of Burkina Faso set the tone by denouncing the technical military assistance agreement concluded in 1961 with France. He then ordered the French side to make arrangements for the "permanent departure" of all military personnel present in Burkinabe military administrations within one month.
Well before this denunciation, in January of the same year, the leader had already forced 400 French soldiers from the "Task Force Sabre", stationed since 2009 in Ouagadougou, to pack their bags.
In August 2023, the Burkinabe government, under the leadership of Captain Traor©, also denounced the double taxation treaty signed on August 11, 1965, between Burkina Faso and France. At the time, Burkina Faso's former Director General of Taxation, Moumouni Lougu©, emphasized that the country would benefit enormously from denouncing this agreement. Indeed, all sole proprietorships and companies with their tax domicile in France and providing services in Burkina Faso were exempt from income tax.
Captain Ibrahim Traor© is also one of the key players in the creation of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), a military mutual assistance agreement signed on September 16, 2023, between Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. The three countries subsequently established the Confederation of Sahel States on July 6, 2024, before definitively leaving ECOWAS, which they consider an institution subservient to Western imperialism.
It should also be noted that, as part of its development and the fight against terrorism, the country has opted for a diversification of its partnerships by moving closer in particular to Russia, Turkey, China, and Nicaragua.
In a word, it is the fight for sovereignty and pan-Africanism of the President of Faso which angers the conglomerate of imperialists with their plans.
