Banfora: The 24th Inter-Armed Regiment (RIA) of Banfora presented its developed agricultural perimeter to a delegation from the National Office of Major Projects of Burkina (BN-GPB) during a mission to monitor agricultural production progress within the barracks.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the developed area is situated a few kilometers from Banfora, on the road to Mangodara. It features a borehole with a submersible pump, solar panels, a pond, a water tower, and employs laser spray irrigation technology. The staff at the Banfora garrison are actively engaged in cultivating a variety of crops, including aubergines, onions, cucumbers, and chili peppers.
"As soon as they finished developing the site six months ago, we began production activities," stated Second Lieutenant Soulga Yacouba, the unit commander of the 24th RIA. "We grow almost everything on this site: eggplants, onions, corn, fruit trees, and many other crops. Among us, many soldiers are proficient in agricultural techniques and volunteer to take care of the site. And as you can see, there are no major difficulties, because they have mastered it."
Commander Soulga highlighted that the produce from the site is intended to supplement the food rations for the soldiers stationed there. Additionally, he informed the BN-GPB delegation about the acquisition of a 500-hectare plot of land by the 24th RIA, a portion of which is designated for agricultural production. He emphasized the need for increased resources to further develop this area.
