Burkina: Strengthening the resilience of midwives and obstetricians in the face of humanitarian challenges

The Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Kargougou, inaugurated this Thursday the second scientific days of the Burkinabe Association of Midwives and Midwives (ABSFM), under the theme 'Resilience and quality in midwifery practice in the humanitarian context: challenges and perspectives'.Scheduled to take place from September 12 to 14, 2024, with the financial support of the World Health Organization (WHO), these days aim to strengthen the resilience of midwives and obstetricians in the face of growing humanitarian challenges, while ensuring the quality of maternal care.According to Dr. Kargougou, this ceremony marks the importance of increased collaboration between health professionals to overcome the obstacles imposed by humanitarian crises. He also recalled that this space for exchange constitutes a valuable opportunity to evaluate and improve current care strategies.The president of the ABSFM, Blanche Zoungrana, insisted on the crucial role of these days in harmonizing the practices of midwives and obstet ricians, while anchoring them in a scientific approach focused on obstetric research in times of crisis.According to her, this meeting will make it possible to capitalize on the experiences of the participants to better respond to the needs of pregnant women and newborns, despite the difficult conditions.The days organized on the sidelines of the International Day of the Midwife (IDM), will also provide a framework conducive to research and innovation in maternal health.This work is part of a dynamic of strengthening the maternal health system in Burkina Faso, in response to the complex challenges encountered in the current humanitarian context.The ABSFM thus reaffirms its commitment to supporting healthcare professionals in carrying out their essential mission, serving the most vulnerable populations.Source: Burkina Information Agency
