While acknowledging shortcomings and limitations, the Minister of Higher Education, Pr Adjima Thiombiano, nevertheless invited students on Thursday to talk about the enormous sacrifices made by the government to improve their study conditions and not to let only those who see everything in black speak.'When someone tells you something without justification about our actions, prove them wrong. So, together, we will fight against misinformation about the efforts made in universities,' said Prof. Adjima Thiombiano. The head of the Burkinabe higher education department addressed students in Koudougou on Thursday, September 5, 2024, during an unannounced visit aimed at assessing the effectiveness of the vacation courses set up to address academic delays in the country's universities.According to the minister, students do not talk enough about the efforts made to improve study conditions in universities. It is addressed to those among them who have chosen to remain passive, letting defenders of irrelevant c auses occupy the field."For years, students have criticized the LMD system for not being efficient because of connectivity and internet access problems. Today, this issue has been resolved in most universities, but they rarely talk about it," the minister said. For him, as much as students have the right to acquire knowledge, they have the duty to convey the correct information of which they are convinced, in order to counter disinformation within universities. The minister therefore invites them to get involved in communication to avoid, according to him, leaving room for detractors of the dynamic initiated to meet the challenges of universities. This is part, according to Professor Thiombiano, of their contribution to the fight against those who want to make people believe that the system is completely defective and that nothing works.Although aware of the limits and shortcomings, Professor Adjima Thiombiano stressed that it is necessary to make everyone understand that enormous efforts are being mad e to gradually improve the study and working conditions of students and teachers. He also praised the teachers and students who agreed to sacrifice their holidays to take part in the courses. This initiative of holiday courses, although criticized by some, is proof that actions are being taken to overcome the difficulties, and it is necessary to convince all stakeholders to join in, he concluded.Source: Burkina Information Agency
