Ouagadougou: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Handicrafts has issued a directive to motorcycle market participants, granting them one month to align with legal stipulations or face stringent penalties, as reported by AIB on Wednesday. This proclamation arrives on the heels of heightened inspections executed by the Mobile Brigade for Economic Control and Fraud Repression (BMCRF), aimed at curbing speculative behavior and fostering a competitive environment.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the BMCRF has identified several irregularities among importers, assemblers, wholesalers, and retailers. These include the absence of necessary administrative documents such as trade registers, IFU numbers, and professional cards, as well as failures in displaying prices, issuing compliant invoices, and maintaining consistent pricing for similar models. The ministry underscores the importance of traceability in commercial activities within this sector, particularly in the current security climate, to thwart any potential money laundering or terrorist financing activities.
Recalcitrant traders will face sanctions beyond the August 16, 2025 deadline, which may include the confiscation of motorcycles. These confiscated vehicles will subsequently be sold, with proceeds benefiting the Patriotic Support Fund. The BMCRF remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard consumers and uphold adherence to prevailing regulations.
