Burkina/Urban reconfiguration: Urban development stakeholders discuss validation of the national strategy

The Secretary General, Delwendé Maxime Tiendrebeogo, representing the Minister of Urban Planning and Housing, Mikaïlou Sidibé, chaired, on Tuesday, the validation workshop of the National Strategy for Urban Reconfiguration (SNRU), which will improve basic social services and urban facilities."The strategy will improve the presence of the State and the provision of essential goods and services such as basic social services and urban facilities," according to the Secretary General of the Ministry in charge of Urban Planning, Delwendé Maxime Tiendrebeogo.For him, the urban centres thus created or strengthened will offer better security guarantees through a substantial network of security services as well as developments systematically taking into account the security challenge.Maxime Tiendrebeogo spoke on Tuesday in Ouagadougou, during the validation workshop of the National Strategy for Urban Reconfiguration (SNRU), whose vision is for 2029.He indicated that actions in line with the orientations of ur ban reconfiguration are already underway."I would like to mention the program for the construction of 50,000 housing units (Burukina Faso Deenw ka soow) which advocates urban densification, the program for the restructuring of spontaneous housing areas and the clearance of urban land (Pro-Rest-Apur) which aims to eliminate spontaneous housing areas and the urban development program (PDU) whose aim is to improve the urbanity of cities," he added.Mr. Tiendrébeogo continued that the responses envisaged in the strategy make it possible to take into account the need to recompose spaces from the development of planning tools to the completion of planned developments.According to him, particular emphasis is given to strengthening the level of equipment and the resilience of cities.'Cities are the engines of economic development for any nation,' continued the Secretary-General, who believes that we must seize transformational opportunities to rethink the design and management of our cities.Urban development stakeholders will work on thematic groups such as 'urban planning' and 'housing and urban development' in order to consolidate the axes and actions for effective, efficient and flexible implementation of the strategy.Source: Burkina Information Agency
