Burkina’s 10th Information and Orientation Week Empowers New Graduates for Informed Career Choices

Ouagadougou: The 10th edition of the Information and Orientation Week (SIO) is currently underway from July 14 to 19, 2025, at the SIAO site, attracting 15,000 visitors, including new high school graduates, who are being equipped to make informed decisions regarding their training courses in both public and private universities. The event opened on Tuesday, July 15, under the theme: 'Presidential Initiative for Quality Education for All: Rethinking College Advice for Sustainable Employability.'According to Burkina Information Agency, the opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Higher Education, Professor Adjima Thiombiano, and set the stage for a week of interactions between new graduates and higher education stakeholders. A total of eighty-five universities and higher education institutes, both public and private, are showcasing their training offerings to the 15,000 expected visitors.The event is organized by the General Directorate of University Guidance and Scholarships, providing a plat form for discussion and information aimed at assisting new graduates in their career choices. "This 10th edition of the SIO is a mature SIO, taking place at a time when all education systems are undergoing reform, from primary to higher education. It also coincides with the implementation of the presidential initiative for quality education, which justifies our commitment to this dynamic," stated Minister Thiombiano.The SIO program includes various communications on scholarships, both international and national, and social services offered by the National Center for University Works. It also covers the orientation process on the Campus Faso platform. "In higher education, we are in a context of redefining training offerings, particularly in public universities and schools. This reform is essentially based on the definition and selection of priority courses," added Minister Thiombiano.Professor Marie Laure Sougoti/Guissou, Director General of University Career Guidance and Scholarships, emphasized that the overall objective of the ceremony is to provide new high school graduates, parents, and professionals with a space for information, discussion, and advice to support their career choices. She expressed confidence that the interviews conducted during the event would enable participants to make thoughtful choices regarding their courses.Professor Marie Laure further specified that future students will benefit from individual and group interviews with career counselors throughout the week. This ceremony represents a valuable opportunity for these future students to build their professional career plans.
