Burkina’s Infrastructure Ministry Lauds Road Network Restoration Efforts.

Ouagadougou: The Ministry in charge of Infrastructure praised the efforts made by its technicians to maintain mobility and rehabilitate infrastructure damaged by torrential rains. "The ministry has proven that it is living up to expectations despite the difficult conditions. We have almost forgotten the difficulties encountered," said the director general of transport infrastructure, Moumouni Ilboudo, during a press briefing.According to Burkina Information Agency, thanks to the rapid maintenance and marking of secondary diversions, the installation of metal bridges in Bama, Badara and Tarfila, and the reinforcement and reconstruction of embankments and technical blocks, particularly in Takalédougou and Kourinion, road traffic has been restored. Added to this are communication and awareness-raising actions on security measures.According to the Director General of Road Maintenance, Salfo Pacéré, this mobilization was supported by the government headed by the Minister of Infrastructure, Adama Luc Sorgho, th e Burkina Special Road Fund (FSR-B), the Defense and Security Forces, EKS, SN SOSUCO, customary and religious authorities, local authorities, and the media. As a reminder, the torrential rains from July to October 2024 led to submersions, collapses of structures, and road closures, disrupting the movement of people and goods in the regions of Boucle du Mouhoun, Cascades, and Hauts-Bassins. These include, among others, the repeated submersions of the Hèrèdougou bridge and a section of the RN14 between Dédougou and Nouna, in the Mouhoun loop, and the removal of the technical blocks of the Tarfila bridge and the erosion of the slopes on the RN07 in the Cascades.Looking ahead, the general directors, Salfo Pacéré and Moumouni Ilboudo, suggested that the ministry has considered short, medium, and long term measures to strengthen the resilience of the road network. In the short term, this involves the execution of the 2024 routine maintenance program, the launch of construction work on the Hérèdougou and Bama st ructures, and the landfills on the RN14. In the medium and long term, the rehabilitation of national roads 07, 08, and 14, and the operationalization of maintenance brigades in each region.
