Centre-Nord/Mandatory Patriotic Immersion: 2025 Baccalaureate Candidates Raised Awareness of Kaya

Kaya: The Ministry of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training, in partnership with other ministries and institutions, organized an information and awareness-raising meeting in Kaya aimed at informing candidates in the Centre-North region for the 2025 baccalaureate session about the compulsory patriotic immersion introduced by the Burkinabe Government. The opening of the discussions was chaired by the Secretary General of the Centre-North region, Bernadette Adenyo/Serme, who reassured the commitment of local authorities to support the implementation of this initiative.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training, Henri Prosp¨re Par©, emphasized that the mandatory patriotic immersion aims to provide new high school graduates with an experience of civic and personal enrichment. This initiative is not a military training program but is designed to enhance the knowledge of young graduates while fostering their patriotism through modules on patriotism, financial education, and sports activities.

Participants were informed that graduates would undergo medical examinations to assess their physical and mental condition before beginning the program. Mr. Par© clarified that even students with disabilities who cannot participate in physical exercises will be able to engage in other immersion activities.

The session allowed candidates to ask questions and receive clarifications regarding the program. Students expressed satisfaction with the information provided. Bibata Ou©draogo from Korsimoro departmental high school highlighted the importance of the meeting in helping her understand the program better. Meanwhile, Isac Sawadogo from Betsaleel Wendlayam private high school welcomed the concept and expressed his hope that the program would include military training components for those interested in joining the national armed forces.

The decree establishing compulsory patriotic immersion for students admitted to school exams was adopted by the Council of Ministers on May 2, 2025. The aim is to provide young graduates with theoretical, physical, and civic training to strengthen their patriotic spirit, encourage a taste for effort and personal discipline, and establish self-defense reflexes, all in the context of rebuilding Burkinabe society.
