He cited the construction of the Bamako-Ouagadougou Niamey railway, the construction of the Bamako-Ouagadougou-Niamey highway and the creation of a joint airline.'We need to make it known that we exist. It is a necessity. It's going to be expensive but it's not impossible. It's a question of ambition,' he said. The first edition of the Civil Aviation Days (JDA C) in the area of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) will take place from February 22 and 23, 2024 in the Burkinabe economic capital. For two days, decision-makers, experts and aeronautics players from Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger will discuss the central theme 'Sustainable development of civil aviation in the AES area in a context of resilience: challenges and perspectives. To carry out this reflection, several panels will feature in these first days of civil aviation in the AES area. These include, among others, 'The creation of the AES company, what implementation strategies', and 'The development of civil aviation in the AES member countries, airports and aerodromes of the interior ".According to Dr Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla, the central theme of this edition of the JDAC is challenging, at this decisive moment in the history of the AES, because it reflects the desire of the highest authorities of the three Sahel States, to give air transport another dimension, a central and strategic r ole with regard to the challenges and issues of the day.'By pooling ideas and proposed solutions, the civil aviation administrations of our three States intend to combine their efforts, in order to provide an appropriate response to the legitimate aspirations of our populations,' he explained. Moreover, he maintained that civil aviation plays a crucial role in the development of a large region like the AES on five essential points, namely strengthening connectivity and promoting accessibility to remote regions and geographically isolated areas. , stimulate the economy through the creation of direct and indirect jobs, develop tourism, facilitate international trade and ensure access to essential services. And to indicate, 'in summary, civil aviation is a major catalyst for regional development, offering significant economic, social and cultural benefits for a large region like ours'.In his opinion, 'it is therefore not limited to business or leisure trips. It is a vital artery for the economic, social an d cultural development of our countries, particularly in this context where lawless men are trying to make us sink into a chaos that would benefit them.'In the opinion of the Prime Minister, in the current context, civil aviation is much more than a simple link in the transport sector, because it is a symbol of the sovereignty of our space and an essential engine of economic and social development. and technological. This is why he is convinced that air sovereignty is a fundamental pillar of our regained independence. 'It guarantees that our countries have full control of their airspace, their airport infrastructure and their airlines.''By therefore strengthening our capacity to ensure the safety and security of our airspace, we are protecting our territory and our citizens against any external threat. This is all the more relevant as our recent decisions and actions have led some to close their skies to us,' he added. Then, Dr Kyélèm de Tambèla mentioned that the development, the strengthening of air s ervices in the AES area, the modernization of airport infrastructures and the security issues facing our States require the development of a dynamic of strengthening cooperation links and mutual assistance in order to find together suitable solutions to face an environment that has become increasingly complex and hostile.'We have an exceptional opportunity to transform the landlocked nature of our States into a major asset. Despite the complexity of our geographical position as a hinterland country, our common air space represents very important geostrategic, geopolitical and economic issues, from which we have not been able or able to extract the full dividends that we are entitled to expect. ', he insisted.Source: Burkina Information Agency
