Coat of Arms Law Set for Revision in Burkina Faso.

Ouagadougou: The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, presided over the weekly Council of Ministers meeting this Wednesday, November 27. Several issues were discussed with decisions made to ensure the effective governance of the nation, as stated by Minister of State and Government Spokesperson, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel OUEDRAOGO.According to Burkina Information Agency, the Council adopted a bill under the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, responsible for Relations with Institutions. This bill aims to amend the law from August 1, 1997, which outlines the description and significance of Burkina Faso's Coat of Arms. Minister of Justice Edasso Rodrigue BAYALA indicated that this legislative change aligns with the recent constitutional amendment that updated the country's motto to "The Fatherland or Death, We Will Win."Minister BAYALA elaborated that the Coat of Arms, including the motto, is defined by law. The recent constitutional change necessitated the modification of the 1997 law pertaining to t he Coat of Arms of Burkina Faso.In addition to this, the Council, on behalf of the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Quarries, adopted two decrees to support the new mining code and improve the legal framework governing the mining sector.The first decree introduces innovations in mining taxes and royalties, as explained by Minister of Mines, Yacouba Zabré GOUBA. A comprehensive review of mining taxes and royalties was conducted, resulting in an increase in certain categories. The council further decided to lift the cap on royalties collected from gold production intended for export, according to Minister GOUBA.The second decree addresses the management of state assets, filling a previous legal gap. This decree aims to enhance the management of state mining assets, boost contributions to the state budget, and streamline the mining cadastre.
