Journalist Rasmané Zongo, a student at the École Supérieure de Journalisme (ESJ) in Lille and the University of Lille, defended, on Friday, August 30, 2024, remotely, his international Master's thesis in Media Management entitled: "Improving access to information for Internally Displaced Persons: the case of La Voix des Balé".Journalist Rasmané Zongo explained that the choice of this subject was born from the observation that the radio station La Voix des Balé shows little interest in this section of the population in distress in its programs, during this period of security and humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso. However, according to him, these IDPs need to be informed about their care. "Often, host populations and displaced persons do not have access to precise, timely information on the humanitarian response. We also note that cohabitation between IDPs and populations is not easy, particularly with regard to access to land and water, due to a lack of information," he said.To improve the situation of IDPs, he stressed that the radio La Voix des Balé can contribute to raising awareness and entertaining these displaced people in the Balé province.Applicant Zongo has also demonstrated that it is possible to improve the information offering for IDPs by adapting the radio's programme schedule, which could also generate revenue for partners. The diagnosis of the programs of La Voix des Balé, the survey, as well as the interviews with humanitarian structures and services, listeners and IDPs led to the need to create and host radio programs in local languages ??for Internally Displaced Persons living in the Balé.Generally speaking, it emerged that all IDPs have a means of listening to the radio, whether by mobile phone or by radio receiver. The IDPs are almost all available to participate in the production of the programs and wish to listen to the radio in groups, in order to discuss their current concerns. The main desired languages ??are respectively Mooré, Dioula, Fulfulde and French."The interpretatio n of the data collected reveals that the issues of social cohesion and the culture of peace within the population and the IDPs are at the heart of the concerns of those surveyed."This is how the student demonstrated that the broadcast themes that suit them are primarily linked to social cohesion, peace, food, reproductive health, recovered property, education, health, civil status and local development.IDPs in the Bale want support in the areas of food, water, health and education. In addition, they also want financial assistance, employment, income-generating activities, clothing, housing, farmland and civil status documents. At the end of his Master II defense in Media Management, the jury, chaired by Fabrice Caudron, judged the work admissible and satisfactory with a lot of useful information. The jury also noted that the work is interesting, because it focuses on a target often forgotten by the media, which are the IDPs.Source: Burkina Information Agency
