Dori: The Sahel Regional Nutrition Council Seeks Better Nutritional Governance

Dori: The Sahel Regional Nutrition Council (CRN) held its first session of the year this Tuesday in Dori. The multi-sectoral meeting, chaired by Governor Abdoul Karim Zongo, aimed to take stock of the nutritional situation in the region and identify ways to strengthen the fight against malnutrition.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the first 2025 session of the CRN opened in the regional capital of the Sahel in the presence of heads of technical services, projects, NGOs, and associations. The main objective was to assess the performance of the strategic nutrition plan implemented in the region. The agenda also included an analysis of plans to address the problems identified by the technical committee and the development of recommendations for better nutrition governance.

In his speech, the Regional Director of Health, Mr. Djibrila Alou Maga, recalled that malnutrition is a complex problem with multiple causes, requiring an integrated approach. He emphasized the multisectoral dimension of the fight against malnutrition, which must mobilize all stakeholders: health, education, agriculture, social protection, water, hygiene, and sanitation.

Speaking, the Governor of the Sahel region, Mr. Abdoul Karim Zongo, praised the strong involvement of technical and financial partners supporting the government's efforts in this area. He encouraged the continuation of coordinated and sustained actions to sustainably improve nutritional indicators in the region.

The Regional Nutrition Council (CRN), a decentralized consultation and steering body, was established to improve local governance of nutrition issues. At the end of the meeting, participants made several recommendations aimed at strengthening intersectoral synergies, improving the coordination of interventions, and strengthening the monitoring and evaluation of activities on the ground.

The holding of this first session of the CRN 2025 demonstrates the commitment of regional authorities and their partners to making nutrition a strategic priority. Collective mobilization remains essential to effectively address the nutritional challenges of the Sahel and ensure a healthy future for vulnerable populations.
