Educational Talks Empower Tuy Students to Combat Violent Extremism and Radicalization.

Houndé: The provincial directorate of Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity of Tuy hosted an educational talk on violent extremism and radicalization at the private high school Saint Alex de Houndé. The objective was to make students actors in the fight against these phenomena in order to strengthen social cohesion and living together.According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial directorate aims to bolster social cohesion and encourage harmonious living through the involvement of students in Tuy province. To achieve this, they initiated educational talks targeting secondary school students across the region.On November 21, 2024, a team from the directorate engaged with the students at Saint Alex de Houndé, focusing on the concepts of violent extremism and radicalization. During the hour-long session, facilitators enlightened the students on the causes, manifestations, and consequences of these issues, while also discussing strategies to combat them.The facilitators emphasized the import ance of fostering values such as love for others, patriotism, religious tolerance, community communication, and good governance to prevent violent extremism. They also advised students to resist the lure of easy money and to prioritize honest work to avoid falling prey to terrorism.Jean de Dieu Kaboré, an agent at the provincial directorate, expressed satisfaction with the students' engagement and participation. He noted that this initiative aims to empower students to become advocates in their communities against violent extremism, radicalization, and terrorism.Students responded positively to the talk. Déborah Koussoubé stressed the importance of mutual love and patriotism, while Aristide Sanon pledged to raise awareness among his peers to combat these challenges.As a reminder, these educational talks, which commenced on November 15, will continue until December 15, 2024, covering secondary schools in all seven municipalities of Tuy province.
