Farouk Bouasker says electoral register to be updated next week

President of the Independent Higher Authority for the Elections (ISIE) Farouk Bouasker affirmed that the updating of the electoral register will be done shortly after the publication in the JORT, of the decisions regarding the territorial division of the imadas, which are spread over 24 governorates. In an interview with TAP, Bouasker added that the electoral register would probably be updated next week. This update will allow each voter to find out, via an SMS service, the imada to which he or she belongs, he explained. As regards the calendar for the local elections, the ISIE President pointed out that it is up to the President of the Republic to set the dates for the elections. He added that the local elections should take place three months after the publication of the decree convening the electorate, i.e. at the end of October or the beginning of November. These elections will be conducted in 2,155 imadas to set up 279 local councils, as a first step towards the election of regional and district councils, he said.
