Ganzourgou: 25 women and young people create a cooperative to improve artisanal gold mining in Mogtédo V3

On September 19, 2024, in the village of Mogtédo, Ganzourgou province, 25 young people and women created a cooperative society called 'Wendpanga', dedicated to improving artisanal gold mining. Gathered in a general assembly, these artisanal miners benefited from the technical support of the Assumption of Women in the Mining Sector of Burkina, represented by Ursule Timbangou and the firm 'What you need', represented by Zakaria Ganamé.The constitutive general assembly of the cooperative was chaired by the agent of the agricultural service of Mogtédo, Sibiri Étienne Kientéga, mandated by the firm What you need (WYN). He defined the cooperative society, explained the importance of forming a cooperative, gave the role of the different members of the office and detailed the formalization process according to the law of the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA).The participants then freely decided to create their cooperative. Called the Wendpanga cooperative, it is headquartered in the village of Mogtédo V3 and is managed by a management committee of three members elected by consensus. They are: Séni Kafando (president), Issouf Ouédraogo (secretary) and André Ouédraogo (treasurer). The management committee is supported by a monitoring committee whose three members were also appointed. The cooperative's share was set at 5,000 FCFA per member, and monthly contributions at 1,000 FCFA.At the end of the establishment of the office, Mr. Sibiri Etienne Kientéga and Zakaria Ganamé expressed their commitment to assist them until they obtain their receipt of recognition from the competent authorities. The president, Séni Kafando, expressed his gratitude to the Assumption of Women in the Mining Sector of Burkina (AFEMIB) for the skills acquired by members through their support. "Thanks to the cooperative, we will organize ourselves better and make a better profit from gold mining." he stressed. However, he requested an acceleration in the support in equipment for a prompt start of activities .A member of the supervisory committee, Mariam Sawadogo, also thanked AFEMIB and encouraged the members of the cooperative to remain united and supportive to ensure the success of the various activities. "Unity and understanding will be the keys to our success," she insisted. This initiative is part of the Support Project for Strengthening Land and Mine Management (PARGFM), in its community component focused on local development, economic integration and the empowerment of women and young people on mining sites. This project aims to strengthen the socio-economic capacities of 500 women and young people spread across ten mining sites in the municipalities of Mogtédo, Bagassi, Bouda, Boudry, Boussé, Korsimoro, Poura, Réo, Sabcé and Zabré. Thanks to the financial support of PARGFM, AFEMIB and WYN are tasked with guiding the beneficiaries in setting up 20 cooperatives, assisting them throughout the administrative formalization process, in accordance with the requirements of the OHADA law.The establishment o f the Wendpanga cooperative follows the creation, on September 18, 2024, of the market gardening cooperative "Sougr-nooma" by another group of women from Mogtédo V3.AFEMIB representative Ursule Timbangou praised the commitment of the cooperative members and encouraged them to persevere in their efforts to sustain their activities. She also renewed AFEMIB's thanks to PARGFM for its financial support and to WYN for its technical assistance. In the implementation of this project, material support is planned for the various cooperatives. The constitutive general meetings were also an opportunity to validate the list of equipment that will be given to them. This material support, which represents the next step, should soon follow to adequately equip all the cooperatives created in order to ensure the successful implementation of the Income Generating Activities.Source: Burkina Information Agency
