Ghana's Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, leading a delegation in Ouagadougou, reiterated his country's commitment to supporting Burkina Faso in the fight against terrorism."We reiterate our commitment to supporting Burkina in facing the security challenge," declared Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah at a meeting in the presence of the Burkinabe Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean Marie Karamoko Traoré, the Minister of Security, the Minister in charge of Territorial Administration and the Minister of Finance."We have excellent and age-old relations. The populations live in perfect harmony. Consequently, what concerns Burkina also concerns Ghana (...) It is therefore in Ghana's interest to lend a helping hand to Burkina to fight terrorism," added the Ghanaian minister.The head of the Ghanaian delegation pledged to advocate with international institutions, such as the African Union, ECOWAS and the United Nations, on the need to support Burkina Faso in combating terrorism.The head of Burkinabe di plomacy, Jean Marie Karamoko, expressed the satisfaction of the Burkinabe government for the good collaboration with the brother and friend country of Ghana."I reiterate our gratitude in the context of the management of Burkinabe refugees who, due to the security crisis, find themselves in Ghana," said the head of Burkinabe diplomacy, adding that our compatriots live in good harmony with the brotherly people of Ghana."An attempt to bring the two countries closer together after a diplomatic spat in 2022In mid-December 2022, during a meeting in the United States with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo argued that Burkina had 'reached an arrangement to, like Mali, employ Wagner forces.'"I believe that a mine in the south of Burkina was allocated to them as a form of payment for their services," the Ghanaian head of state had claimed, even specifying that the Russian mercenaries were located between Burkina and Ghana and would be paid on the basis of the exploitation of a mine.The Burkinabe government said it was deeply affected by Nana Akufo-Addo's remarks, which it considered "very serious", and recalled its ambassador to Accra and summoned its Ghanaian counterpart to Ouagadougou.The Ghanaian president then tried to apologize to the Burkina Faso authorities during a visit in May 2023.Source: Burkina Information Agency
