Fada N'Gourma: The Minister of State, Minister in charge of Animal Resources, Commander Ismael Sombie, inaugurated the activities of the FASO KOSAM agency on Friday, May 16, 2025, in Fada N'Gourma. The agency aims to increase the production capacity of dairy products, alongside improving animal and fishery resources.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the establishment of FASO KOSAM follows the nationalization of the Milk and Dairy Products Production Company (SOPROLAIT-SA) and reflects the government's ambition under Captain Ibrahim Traore's leadership to achieve national sovereignty. The agro-forestry and pastoral sector is central to this goal, as it is integral to the country's economic independence.
FASO KOSAM replaces the former "Gulmu milk" processing unit, which ceased operations in June 2024 due to significant challenges. The new agency was created by decree on December 23, 2023, and seeks to transform the dairy sector by creating jobs and reducing the country's dependency on imported dairy products, which cost over 17 billion CFA francs annually.
Minister Delegate Dr. Amadou Dicko highlighted the agency's role in promoting key sectors like milk production. Plans are underway for an insemination campaign to enhance milk output and vaccination drives to tackle diseases affecting the dairy industry.
Local dairy processor and head of the "YEMPABOU FADA" cooperative, Pendo Maiga, expressed her support for FASO KOSAM, noting its potential to assist producers in Fada N'Gourma and the broader Eastern region. She committed to backing the agency's initiatives.
FASO KOSOM is equipped with an industrial facility capable of processing 3,000 liters of milk daily. The facility includes a production workshop with a reception room, manufacturing area, butter factory, laboratory, cold room, and consumer-facing retail space. It also features offices, a wastewater treatment system, and two equipped boreholes.
