Fada N'Gourma: The 6th Gendarmerie Legion fulfilled its patriotic duty on Saturday, June 21, 2025, by planting 81 trees during the celebration of the Patriotic Hour to Green Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Patriotic Hour to Green Faso is an initiative by the Burkinabe authorities aimed at encouraging citizens to plant 5 million trees in one hour across the national territory. This effort seeks to address environmental challenges and promote reforestation.
To support this nationwide reforestation policy, the commander of the 6th Gendarmerie Legion, Lieutenant-Colonel K. Wilfried Taoko, and his team planted 81 trees of 12 different species in a secure area. Lieutenant-Colonel Taoko emphasized the significance of this eco-citizen act, acknowledging that their operations, aimed at protecting the national territory, sometimes impact wildlife. Thus, participating in this initiative is their way of contributing to environmental restoration.
Lieutenant-Colonel Taoko called on the population to back this initiative, stressing the importance of addressing the environmental threats by planting and maintaining trees. He highlighted that the responsibility of maintaining the 81 newly planted trees will be formally documented in the guard book to ensure proper monitoring and care.
