Gout Disease: Mwangaza Action Equips Health Workers for Better Patient Care

Ouagadougou: Mwangaza Action, as part of the "Pilot Initiative to Combat Gout in Burkina Faso" project, opened a workshop on Monday for health workers in the Boulmiougou health district. For three days, 60 general practitioners and nurses will be able to strengthen their skills in diagnosis, therapeutic management, and education for patients with gout.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Mwangaza Action initiated this workshop for the benefit of 60 health professionals, as part of the 'Pilot Initiative to Combat Gout in Burkina Faso' project. The specific objectives of the training are to strengthen knowledge about gout, to train in diagnosis and management, and to promote prevention.

This includes a better understanding of the pathophysiology, risk factors, and clinical manifestations of the disease. Participants will also be trained in the use of diagnostic tools (clinical and biological), treatment protocols (drug and non-drug), and the integration of therapeutic patient education (TPE) into management. Finally, the focus will be on primary and secondary prevention of gout.

"Gout is a disease that many people are not very familiar with, and there are few initiatives for its prevention and treatment. We wanted to highlight this condition so that we can educate people and take the necessary measures," said Roger Thiombiano, coordinator of Mwangaza Action.

It is also planned, at the end of each training session, the production of a final report, as well as the monitoring and supervision of the actors. Beyond this workshop, Mwangaza Action plans to train community health workers, who will act as relays to the population for the dissemination of information relating to the disease.

In this initiative, Mwangaza Action benefits from the support of UpHop International, a Burkinabe NGO residing in the United States, and financial support from MAP International. Dr. Rouamba/To© Esther, rheumatologist, welcomed the structure's initiative, noting the timeliness and importance of addressing this little-known disease.

Mwangaza Action is a Burkinabe non-profit organization, established in November 1995. It specializes in social mobilization as well as community participation and engagement.
